How do I install the Sentry Program on my computer?
To properly run this program, you MUST have ADMINISTRATIVE access on your computer. If your department does not allow you to have administrative access then ask them to setup special permission for the file type "VDB" that will be written to the Windows directory when the training program is running.
When you are running this program, certain video display cards, or chipsets in laptop computers do not properly work when you plug in a secondary monitor, such as a LCD projector. The image on your primary screen may look correct but will not look correct on the secondary screen. Try disabling the "full screen mode" of your video display card or installing different drivers for the card. Check the website of the manufacturer of the video display card for more information.
The first time you start the program, you will be asked to create your own user name and password. The password must be entered twice the first time you use the program. A user demographic page will come up to be filled out. You must remember both the user name and password you used and enter them properly (case sensitive) or you will have to fill out the demographic screen again.
After you start an Altec SENTRY program, you must complete it using the same version of the CD-ROM. If you use a previous version of the program, you might have to start the program form the beginning.
NOTE: The following steps refer the control panels. Click START button, click SETTINGS, and then click CONTROL PANEL to access the control panels.
- Use the "Display Properties" control panel "Settings" tab to set the "Screen Area" (screen resolution) to 800 X 600. Note that some laptops do not work properly in 800 X 600. You can choose a higher screen resolution but the image may not fill the screen.
- Use the "Display Properties" control panel "Settings" tab to set the "Colors" to "High Color" (16 bit). Note that some laptops may not work correctly in "high Color". Although this is the optimal setting for accurate colors, the program will still function normally at other settings.
- On some video cards and integrated video chipsets, you have to adjust the graphics hardware acceleration. In some cases, you can not run the "Hardware Acceleration" at full. Try backing down one "tick" mark at a time until the program runs smoothly. Use the "Display Properties" control panel "settings" and click "Advanced". Then click on "Performance" to adjust the acceleration.
- Use the "Power Management" control panel to set "System Standby", "Turn Off Monitor" and "Turn Off Hard Disks" to NEVER.
- If you use a laptop, connect it to AC power for the best operation. Turn the battery power saver control off so the laptop runs on AC power all the time.
- The video on the Altec Sentry program will run quite well on most computers when the program is run directly from the CD-ROM. If you find the video does not function properly, try copying the entire contents of the Altec SENTRY program CD-ROM to an empty folder on your hard drive. You will need about 300 MB of space on the hard drive.
- Close all programs before you run the Altec Sentry program.
