Altec Project Refurbishes US Army Digger Derricks
February 12, 2009

Birmingham, AL – Altec recently partnered with the Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM), a major command in the US Army, to refurbish and customize their aging fleet of digger derricks. NETCOM installs, operates, and maintains communications networks supporting Army organizations. The Altec digger derricks allow the battalions to install and maintain communication lines during times of deployment and to train personnel on proper communication line installation techniques.

Altec was solicited to update the older digger derricks because the customer opted to use the existing tactical chassis on which the derricks were originally mounted. The project, nicknamed “Slider,” consisted of Altec removing the old digger derricks, bodies, and structural components. The chassis was then refurbished and used again, with new Altec equipment.

“The ‘Slider’ project is an excellent example of Altec’s capability to accommodate the Army’s often customized equipment needs,” said Charlie Culp, Managing Director of Altec’s Government Business.
